Back in Action with Fury: Spring Highlights from RBH!

What a whirlwind of a spring it's been! Between settling into our new space and supporting a variety of exciting events, RBH has been busier than ever as we were heading into May as National Bike Month. Here’s a look back at some of our recent activities and community involvement.

Bike Safety Workshop at Maryvale Elementary School

In late April, RBH volunteers partnered with Maryvale Elementary School in Rockville to host a Bike Safety Workshop for students. The kids learned the essential ABCs of bike maintenance (Air, Brakes, Chain) and had the chance to meet local community members. It was a fun and educational program for all involved!

Supporting the Lymphoma Research Ride

We also had the privilege of providing mechanical support at the Lymphoma Research Ride in Dickerson, MD. Despite the windy weather, it was inspiring to see so many cyclists rallying together to fundraise and raise awareness for the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

Kicking Off May as National Bike Month

We kicked off National Bike Month by attending the City of Gaithersburg’s Active Aging Expo. This annual event is dedicated to inspiring older adults to live active, healthy lives, and our volunteers were on hand to provide bike maintenance demos and answer questions about bike repairs. It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and share our love for cycling!

Bike to Work Day at Rockville Town Center

On Bike to Work Day, RBH was thrilled to provide mechanical support at the Rockville Town Center Pit Stop. Even though the day started off foggy and cloudy, we had a fantastic turnout of riders who stopped by to say hello, top off their tires with air, and get some much-needed support on their commute.

TERRIFIC Kids Giveaway Success

The annual TERRIFIC Kids Giveaway was an absolute hit once again! The event took place in beautiful weather, with over 60 local students receiving bikes. Throughout the year, RBH volunteers worked hard refurbishing bikes for this City of Rockville program. It was an inspiring moment to see Mayor Ashton, Councilmembers Jackson and Valeri congratulate the kids as they celebrated their new bikes, earned through doing good deeds.

Grand Re-Opening and Open Shop Hours

In addition to our community events, we’ve also resumed our Open Shop Hours at our new location on Lewis Avenue! To celebrate the occasion, we hosted a Open House Celebration that included visits from the City of Rockville Councilmembers Jackson, Valeri and Van Grack who presented us with a certificate of recognition as well as Peter Gray from WABA (the Washington Area Bicycle Association). We’re so excited to welcome everyone to our new home for the next 3 years and continue our mission in the community.

Explore Rockville: Global Bites Program

There’s still one week left to participate in the Explore Rockville: Global Bites program! From June 1 to June 14, you can support RBH and other local non-profits by uploading a receipt from a participating restaurant. It’s an easy and delicious way to give back! Learn more at Explore Rockville: Global Bites.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow and thrive in our new location, we’re excited for the many more opportunities to connect with and serve our community. A big thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, and partners who make these events possible. Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to check out our upcoming events. Together, we’re making biking accessible and fun for everyone!
