As the leaves begin to turn, things at RBH are showing no signs of slowing down! We’ve had an exciting and productive few months, filled with community engagement, new partnerships, and a growing number of visitors taking advantage of our Open Shop Hours.
Open Shop Hours in Full Swing
Our new space continues to buzz with energy. Each week, more community members drop in to work on their bikes, get help from our volunteers, or lend a hand repairing donated bikes. It’s inspiring to see the space being used just as we envisioned—a welcoming hub for cyclists of all levels.
Laughs for a Cause: Fundraiser with Give a Hoot Comedy Club
In August, we teamed up with Give a Hoot Comedy Club for a weekend of fundraising and fun. Local comedian Jared Stern headlined the event, and proceeds from ticket sales were generously donated to RBH. Give a Hoot's ongoing commitment to supporting local nonprofits in Montgomery County makes them a fantastic community partner—we’re already looking forward to the next one!
Spreading the Word at REIÂ
RBH had a great opportunity to table at REI Pike & Rose, where we connected with shoppers and shared our mission as a nonprofit community bike shop. Outreach like this helps grow awareness of the work we do, and we’re looking forward to setting up again when schedules and volunteers align. Â
RBH Returns to the Wild Goose Chase
In September, our team traveled to Cambridge, MD for the annual Wild Goose Chase, where we hosted maintenance workshops for the many women participating in this beloved ride. Founded in 2008 by cycling legend Georgena Terry—recently inducted into the 2024 U.S. Bicycle Hall of Fame—this ride raises funds for the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. It’s always a highlight of our year!
Pedaling into the Montgomery County Family Bike Festival
Also in September, RBH was excited to join the first-ever Montgomery County Family Bike Festival. It was a gorgeous day spent talking bikes, answering questions, and offering basic repairs to families enjoying the event at the Rockville Town Square.
A Record-Breaking Bicycle Donation Drive
October kicked off with a huge success at the annual Montgomery County Bicycle Donation Drive. This year, the MC-DOT collected a record-breaking 334 bikes, and RBH is proud to be a key partner in this effort during the County’s Community Service Month.
Ahead of the event, our very own Board President appeared on local TV news to help promote the drive and spread the word about how donated bikes make a lasting impact. His advocacy helped bring in more bikes—and more community engagement—than ever before.
Now comes the fun part: getting those bikes cleaned, tuned up, and back out to people who need them. Â
As we roll through fall, we want to thank all of our volunteers, supporters, and partners who make this work possible. Whether you're donating your time, tools, bikes—or just spreading the word—you’re helping to connect the community on two wheels!
