Summer Is Here – And RBH Has Been Busy!

It's hard to believe we're already halfway through the year! Summer has arrived, and it's a great time to reflect on everything that's been happening at RBH. Thanks to our incredible volunteers, supporters, and community, 2026 has already been filled with activity, new opportunities, and exciting plans for the future.

Celebrating National Bike Month

May was an especially exciting month as we celebrated National Bike Month with events that brought our community together and inspired more people to get on two wheels.

On Bike to Work Day, we were at the Rockville Town Square pit stop to support local commuters by providing quick bike adjustments and mechanical assistance to help keep riders safely on their way. It was a great chance to meet cyclists, answer questions, and encourage more people to choose bicycling for their daily commute.

Partnering with the City of Rockville, our 12th Annual TERRIFIC Kids Bike Giveaway was a huge success! We gave away more than 70 refurbished bicycles to students who earned them by doing good deeds and demonstrating what it means to be a terrific citizen.  A big thank you to our volunteers for helping each child find the right bike and helmet and making so many kids smile. We were also honored to welcome the Rockville Mayor and City Councilmembers, whose visit made the day even more special for the students and their families. A Busy Shop and a Growing Community

Our Open Shop Hours have been busier than ever. Every week, we welcome people interested in learning bicycle repair, purchasing refurbished bikes, finding affordable parts, volunteering, or connecting with fellow cycling enthusiasts. Seeing so many people walk through our doors reminds us why RBH exists—to make bicycling more accessible, affordable, and welcoming for everyone.

Looking for a Permanent Home

While our volunteers continue to play a vital role in everything we do, our Board has also been focused on another important priority—finding a long-term home for RBH.

Our current lease expires in just two years, and we're beginning the search for a larger, more permanent space that will allow us to expand our programs and better serve the community.

We've started reaching out to community partners and exploring opportunities with Lincoln High School and Broome Middle School. While these conversations are still in the early stages, we're optimistic about finding a space that can support our growing number of volunteers, bicycles, educational workshops, and community programs.

A permanent home would allow us to grow our bicycle repair workshops, increase storage for donated and refurbished bicycles, expand volunteer opportunities, and continue serving cyclists throughout Rockville and Montgomery County for years to come.

We Need More Than Bike Mechanics

As we've grown, so have the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our nonprofit running. While many of our volunteers enjoy repairing bicycles and helping customers during Open Shop Hours, we also need people with skills outside the shop.

We're looking for volunteers who can help with grant research, administrative support, photography at events, staffing outreach tables and community events, managing online sales of refurbished bicycles and bike parts, and improving our communications.

One area where we're feeling the growing pains is staying connected with our supporters. We've fallen behind on responding to some of our Patreon members and other supporter communications, and we'd especially appreciate help setting up and managing an email platform so we can send regular newsletters and updates to our members, volunteers, donors, and the broader community.

Another Easy Way to Help

Not everyone has the time to volunteer, and that's perfectly okay. Another great way to support RBH is through our Amazon Wish List. We've created a list of tools, shop supplies, office items, and other essentials that help us keep our programs running. Every donated item—large or small—helps us spend more time refurbishing bicycles, teaching bicycle maintenance, and serving the community.
